This year’s Pennants final delivered one of the most exciting conclusions we’ve seen in the four year history of the competition.

The clubhouse was buzzing as results came in with 6 games each between the Broad Arrow Bushrangers and the Kookynie Miners, leaving just one match still out on the course. All attention turned to the showdown between Broad Arrow’s Lui Camporeale and Kookynie’s Zane Arthur.

With the overall match tied, a result had to be made, so the pair headed back out after finishing all square through 18 holes. Light was fading fast, but neither player was willing to give an inch.

On hole 3 (the 19th hole played), both made bogey and remained tied.

On hole 4, the short par 3, tension was sky high as Zane had to give Lui a shot as they were playing nett match play. Both hit the green. Lui made par. Zane drained an incredible 20 foot birdie putt to keep the match alive.

On hole 5, both made bogey again and were still tied, but by then it was simply too dark to continue. A sad end to an epic match.

Back in the clubhouse, a decision had to be made. After careful deliberation, it was agreed that the championship would be decided by games for and against across the day.

That result fell in favour of Broad Arrow, who claimed the title and secured back to back pennants victories.

In the other match to decide the wooden spoon, the Goongarrie Drillers were no match for the Ora Banda Winders, who claimed 11 of the 13 matches. A big congratulations to Ora Banda, who can finally enjoy a break from the wooden spoon jokes.
